Training for the Tent Installer - A Big Success for Industry

This past September at Graph Expo in Chicago, IFAI Vice President and Publisher Mary Hennessy conducted a seminar on new products and markets that inspire thinking beyond traditional flags and banners when exploring printing on textiles. This presentation is now online, and provides viewers with valuable business-building insights on how textile printing offers profit opportunities in unique and unexpected ways.
Lead presenters were Ken Keberle (pictured bottom left in red shirt) of Classic Prime, Scottsdale, AZ; Spencer Etzel, Wilsonville, OR; Michael Tharpe of TopTec Products Inc., Laurens, SC; John Ford, Senior Safety Engineer, Department of Industrial Relations, Cal/OSHA Consultation Service and Kathy Schaefer of Glawe Tent and Awning, Dayton, Ohio.
The Tent Rental Division host company was Les Sumpner of A Rental Connection, Canoga Park, California. The event was a huge success because of the special efforts of Sumpner and his team of tent installers who facilitated the site location, installed the educational tent and provided training equipment for the day.

Sirahuen Morales of La Fiesta Party Rentals stated, "This workshop met my expectations with powerful statements made by trainers. I will recommend this session to other tent installers." Anderson Party Rental attendee stated, "we now appreciate safety for every installer and will evaluate the future use of water barrels."
Tent installers representing rental companies throughout California were instructed on the importance of safety on the job site. Safety starts a long time before you show up on site. Safety begins before the job is even sold. There are steps along the way that can make a difference between a tent installer having a long and satisfying career or an installer ending up injured, crippled for life or dead. The Tent Professional does not take shortcuts at the risk or safety for them, the crew or the occupants of the structure during the event. By participating in this workshop, attendees increased their awareness of personal safety for the installer, followed guidelines for a safe tent installation including site survey, layout and squaring, staking, anchoring, installation of a frame tent, layout of clearspan beams and conducting a final quality assurance installation check.
The next training session is being held on April 29, 2008, at Apres Party Rental, 7625 Cahill Road, Edina, MN. To preview a workshop or to register click here. Hotel room block is at the Hampton Inn, 4201 American Blvd. West, Bloomington, MN. For reservations call +1 952 835 6643 and request IFAI/TRD rate of $99.

"GeoAmericas 2008 was the best organized and run geosynthetics conference that I have attended in a long time (and I have been to many since 1977). In particular, the easy and practical Web site made registration, transport and accommodation arrangements a pleasure. Congratulations to the organizing committee."

"This was an excellent example of a well-managed and smart conference and we will attend future conferences when become aware of them."
"I have been quite disappointed with some of the geosynthetics conferences in the last few years, this one however was excellent, well-attended, and a great venue."
"A lot of excellent information was presented and available at the conference!"
"One of the best conferences I have attended in the last 10 years."
"The turnout was great, and as a geomembrane installer I was able to meet with many of my suppliers in one trip. It was a busy trade show which proves that geosynthetics is a thriving business."
"A large effort as put into organizing a very good conference. Keeping the conference running on schedule I am sure was a challenge due to cultural differences, but well-achieved and important to the overall success of the conference."
